Kele Baker, director
Choreographer and movement teacher Kele Baker has been choreographing the Argentine tangos for BBC1's hit show Strictly Come Dancing since the dance was introduced to the programme in 2006. Since then, Kele and her collaborators have choreographed and coached over 20 tangos for Strictly couples, including Caroline Flack & Pasha Kovalev, Kara Tointon & Artem Chigvintsev, and Mark Ramprakash & Karen Hardy.
Kele has also choreographed and staged dances for numerous television and theatrical productions, including Darren Boyd’s Little Cracker (Sky1), Steven Poliakoff's Joe’s Palace (BBC), Deborah Bull’s Travels With My Tutu and The Dancer’s Body (BBC), Latin Fever (Sadlers Wells), Dance Seduction (Erotica, Kensington Olympia), No Way Out (Southwark Playhouse), and Gormenghast (Carabosse Theatre Company) and Macbeth (Open Theatre Group).
Kele has appeared as master teacher on programmes for BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Living TV, and is the co-author of Strictly Come Dancing: Step-By-Step Dance Class (BBC Books). Since 1998, Kele has organised Dance Al Fresco, an annual series of outdoor, charity ballroom, Latin and Argentine tango events held in London’s Regent’s Park and benefiting The Royal Parks Foundation.
After 20 years teaching ballroom, latin, tango, a whiplash injury affected Kele's spine, neck and shoulders. During her process of recovery, Kele discovered the ancient Chinese practices of qigong tai chi, and felt benefits right away. She loved them so much that she made them her daily practices, and decided to share qigong and tai chi with others by becoming a teacher. Kele trained with and has assisted the exceptional master teacher Dr. Roger Jahnke OMD, founder of The Institute for Integral Qigong & Tai Chi (Santa Barbara, CA), and the wonderful qigong master and acupuncturist Lee Holden (Santa Cruz, CA).
Kele now enjoys sharing the benefits of tai chi and qigong with people of all ages and levels of fitness, through group classes, workshops and bespoke coaching sessions.
